With sculpture, installation, performance, and video, I explore how humans relate to one another and to the environments we inhabit. I question prescribed roles and value systems, examining overlooked subjects that populate both science based fields and imaginative speculation. My interests range from microbial communities that drive fermentation to commercially hybridized Sea Monkeys. With humor and material play, I seek moments of permeability, relational transformation, and reactive change within both natural and post-industrialized systems.
To question the arbitrary physical and metaphorical boundaries imposed by late-stage capitalism, I respond with intimacy and connection, creating embodied works that resist passive spectatorship. With scent, sound, and objects that demand the navigation of space, I activate audiences beyond viewership and ask; Where do you end and I begin? What moves me, you, and us? and How might our bodies be retrained for responsive action?
Dietz is currently pursuing her MFA at The Ohio State University.
